Description

Description

The Downtown Student Housing Incentive is a program in Edmonton aimed at creating roughly 500 new student housing units near NorQuest College, MacEwan University, and other central campuses. Developers can receive up to $30,000 per unit for projects that are affordable, purpose-built, and located in priority Downtown zones. The initiative aims to ease a persistent student housing shortage and activate underused Downtown parcels. Eligible projects must create 10-150 student units, remain at or below the city's average rental rate for at least 10 years, and be located within the Centre City node. Grant payments are tied to project milestones including development permit, building permit, construction start, and completion. The federal Housing Accelerator Fund requires that all projects receiving funding must have a building permit by November 9, 2026.
