Description
Description | The Grand Est region, is one of the most impacted French region by climate change: intensification of heatwaves, more intense and frequent droughts and floods, with far-reaching consequences for ecosystems, populations and economic systems. The 57,400 km2 region lies at the heart of Europe and is a perfect pilot area for developing more resilient models. Its elderly population, its energy, agricultural, industrial production and transport activities are vulnerable to heat waves, water shortages and the associated risks. In response, the Grand Est Region has developed prospective study 2050/2100 and a roadmap to accelerate adaptation, based on 45 initial actions. In line with the European adaptation strategy, the 3rd National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change and the adaptation plans of the 3 river basins (Rhine-Meuse, Seine, Rhône), the ADAPT'EST project aims to provide the means to implement the roadmap and thus develop regional. In particular, it plans to disseminate knowledge about extreme climatic events, develop water and climate governance, deploy water retention solutions in agricultural and urban soils, adapt industrial, agricultural, forestry and tourism economic sectors, adapt buildings and infrastructures, provide innovation and public awareness to develop resilience. ADAPT'EST, is based on a consortium of 30 partners recognised at national and regional level: Regional Chambers of Agriculture, National Forestry Office, Waterways of France, French Biodiversity Office, Energy agency, Water Agencies, Météo France, National School for water and Environment among others partners keen to replicate the results of the project's actions at national level. Special cross-border work will be carried out with German partners from the Land of Baden-Württemberg. With an overall budget of 26M€ and 26 employees over 9 years, the project will develop around 152M€ of additional actions financed by the EAFRD, ERDF, Inter-reg and regional funds. |
