Description

Description

Core problem With 13 million inhabitants, Burkina Faso is the most densely populated Sahel country. In 2006, 27.2% of the total population lived below the poverty line. The country has only limited natural resources. The rainfall, which is typically low in the Sahel zone and fluctuates greatly over the course of the year, makes agricultural cultivation, livestock farming and, above all, ensuring a sufficient supply of drinking, watering and irrigation water all year round difficult. An increasing proportion of the young population in particular is looking for more stable living conditions in the outskirts of the cities. Module objective The aim of the FC module is to sustainably ensure a year-round supply of hygienically safe drinking water and appropriate wastewater disposal to previously undersupplied cities in the project regions. Key outputs The rural water supply systems are operational, decentralized sanitation facilities are improved, the target group is informed about hygiene issues, the technical operation of the systems is ensured, and the target group is involved in the operation of the systems. Target group The target group is the population of the selected cities, suburban areas and nearby villages. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 (not in the MV) The project therefore contributes to the goals 1 to permanently end poverty in all its forms everywhere, 3 to promote health and well-being for all, 6 to enable availability of water and sanitation and 11 to design inclusive and sustainable cities and urban planning for sustainable development and thus to the implementation of Agenda 2030.
