Description

Description

The project is part of the project planned jointly with the French Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) entitled Improved access to water distribution performance and related sewerage disposal in Irbid Governorate for host communities and Syrian refugees. The project, with a total investment volume of an estimated EUR 152.0 million, is to be financed jointly by AFD, the EU and Germany. The German financing share of EUR 80.0 million includes a grant component of EUR 40.0 million and a loan component of EUR 40.0 million. The loan component will be financed from funds from the Water Resources Management Programme III (BMZ No. 2012.66.725) and Water Resources Management Programme IV (BMZ No. 2014.67.869) projects. For its part, the AFD has already raised EUR 40.0 million in grant funds for the project through the EU's Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (MADAD) and the EU's Neighbourhood Investment Facility (NIF) and will itself provide a concessional loan of EUR 32.0 million. The project will finance measures to improve water distribution and wastewater disposal in the northern governorates of Jordan. In addition, the overall project will finance measures to strengthen the technical capacities of the regional utility Yarmouk Water Company (YWC), which aim to maintain and preserve the financed infrastructure. Another project component includes the broad-based, poverty- and refugee-oriented expansion of access to water supply and wastewater disposal by providing investment assistance at household level. The target group of the project consists of both Syrian refugees and the local population in the project region. The project aims to improve drinking water supplies and wastewater disposal for the local population and refugees in northern Jordan, prevent conflicts and contribute to protecting the environment and adapting to climate change (goal of the FC module). The project to further support the host communities in northern Jordan is to be implemented together with the French Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) as part of the so-called Mutual Reliance Initiative (MRI). The project is expected to run for 60 months. Note: The target indicators refer to the entire project.
