Description

Description

The ongoing civil war in Syria has led to an increasing influx of refugees into the northern part of Jordan. There are currently an estimated one million Syrian refugees in Jordan, around 80 percent of whom live in towns and villages outside the official refugee camps. This has further exacerbated the already critical water supply situation in the region. Production capacities have been increased through the successful, FC-funded drilling of wells in the Aqib well field in northeastern Jordan. However, the transport capacity from the well field to the water transport system in northern Jordan is insufficient. Therefore, a new parallel pipeline from the well field to the northern water transport system is to be built and parts of the existing pipeline are to be replaced and rehabilitated. The measure is to be fully financed by an FC grant of EUR 13 million. The target group consists of both Syrian refugees and the local population in the project region (host communities).
