The project finances the rehabilitation and expansion of the Gammams and Otjomuise sewage treatment plants and associated infrastructure. This is intended to help the city ensure ecologically and hygienically sound treatment and disposal of wastewater and sewage sludge and thus make a contribution to sustainable and ecological municipal development. In addition, the Gammams and Otjomuise sewage treatment plants can increase the protection of water resources and, in combination with DPR 1 and 2, enable more climate-resilient and sustainable use of resources in Windhoek through the reduced discharge of pollutants into the water bodies and the three-dam system. The module thus fits into the core theme of protecting our natural livelihoods and the water field of action of the Namibian-German development cooperation. The module objective of the project is The Gammams and Otjomuise sewage treatment plants contribute to a more climate-resilient and sustainable use of water resources in Windhoek. To finance the project, the Namibian Ministry of Finance will be granted an interest-subsidized and ODA-eligible loan totaling up to EUR 50,000,000 in local currency. The project sponsor is the City of Windhoek.
