Description

Description

The project submitted consists in purchasing and commissioning a bus driving simulator and tailoring it to the specific needs and constraints of the buses operated by the Société de transport de Laval, including but not limited to actual vehicle dimensions, the size and viewing angle of the rear view mirrors, vehicle performance, specific buttons and switches and the gauges and dials normally visible in a real bus. These gauges, buttons and switches will be represented digitally, so it will be possible to produce different displays depending on the model or type of bus selected. These functionalities will allow us to remain up to date and plan accurate simulations when we purchase new types of vehicles (e.g. electric buses). The simulator will also be equipped with a dynamic seat similar to those in our vehicles, which will physically transmit vibrations, jolts and vector forces during the simulation. The steering wheel, accelerator, brake pedal and flashers will be accurately reproduced with a force feedback system, allowing for maximum precision. There will be three digital screens in front of the driver’s cab displaying a 180-degree image of the simulation. The simulator will come with software making it possible to start and control the simulation. This will allow us to manage, create and modify different driving scenarios. We will also be able to evaluate learners’ or applicants’ performance in order to quickly identify and address weaknesses.
