Description

Description

The purpose of the project is to renovate and expand the Dryden Recreation Centre in order to increase community recreation and event hosting capability, extend the life of the building by upgrading mechanical components, improve accessibility and reduce net operating costs of the facility. The project scope includes a 2,500 sq ft expansion to include 4 fully inclusive and accessible change rooms, a 2,500 sq ft multi purpose space with washrooms and an elevator above the change rooms, replacing mechanical components including the pool and fitness Centre boiler system, 3 refrigeration compressors, the pool dehumidifier and 2 arena dehumidifiers. The project also includes replacing the pool roofing membrane to protect and maintain the building envelope, and introducing a combined heat and power station to allow the facility to generate its own heat and hydro. The project will improve access to recreation for the 7,750 residents of Dryden and 16,500 outlying area residents, improve service for the 16 sport organizations and more than 25 special events in the facility, improve service for the approximately 7,500 far north Indigenous visitors and participants who attend 4 tournaments held annually in Dryden, and decrease operational costs by over $200,000 per year through efficiencies and heat and power generation.
