Description | Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a pilot program to clean traffic signals using drone technology. This initiative replaces traditional manlifts and heavy equipment to improve safety, reduce operational costs, and support environmental goals by lowering fuel and water use and cutting emissions. The first phase involved trial runs at the Marrakech Street–Rebat Street junction with temporary traffic closure for safety. Drones cleaned one side of a traffic signal in 3-4 minutes, reducing operational time by 25-50% and initial cost savings of up to 15%. The pilot builds on earlier RTA drone initiatives for cleaning Dubai Metro and tram station facades and aims to refine cleaning methods with minimal traffic disruption. |
