Description
Description | Duck Mountain Provincial Park (DMPP) currently treats its sewage in two separate twin-cell, facultative lagoon systems referred to as Ministik lagoon and Pickerel Point lagoons. The Ministik lagoon has been cited by the Water Security Agency as requiring upgrades to comply with regulatory requirements prior to any additional development being approved within this park. The Pickerel Point lagoon is currently over capacity and is unable to provide adequate treatment process for sewage hauled to this location. The project planning phase will include assessment of sewage disposal and treatment needs in DMPP, identification of upgrade options, and will confirm the final approach for the sewage lagoon improvements. Preferably, the park’s sewage treatment system will be combined into one expanded, twin cell lagoon to meet applicable regulatory and capacity requirements, with the other lagoon being decommissioned. A detailed engineered design and tender documents will be prepared to meet applicable capacity and regulatory requirements. The project scope is expected to include earthwork expansion of the existing primary and secondary cells, installation of an HDPE liner as well as improvements to the transfer structure, dump station, fencing and access. Depending on the final design approach, the Ministik lagoon may be decommissioned as a part of this project. Sampling wells will be established to allow for required ongoing testing of groundwater in the vicinity of the sewage lagoon. |
