Dutch smart energy meter data for tourism research

This research is the first step towards using data from Dutch smart energy meters for tourism purposes. First, the research will start with a desk search. The main goal is to identify countries which have similar energy grids and to learn from previous studies conducted on smart energy data similarly to that in the Dutch situation. After gaining this knowledge, we will use it to conduct two feasibility studies, both using monthly data from Dutch smart energy meters. The first feasibility study will focus on detecting any seasonal pattern in the energy consumption in Dutch private dwellings in order to identify second homes and other locations primarily used for tourism purposes. The second feasibility study will focus on identifying activity and occupancy of Dutch tourist accommodation establishments.
