Description | Eagle-1 is Europe's first dedicated space-based quantum key distribution satellite developed by a consortium led by SES Techcom in partnership with ESA and the European Commission. It uses a phase-encoded double-pulse BB84 protocol operating at telecom C-band wavelengths, designed to be compatible with terrestrial fiber infrastructure. Scheduled for launch in late 2026 or early 2027, it will undergo a three-year in-orbit validation campaign and provide QKD key delivery to regions where terrestrial fiber links are impractical. |
