Description | The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) has designed and piloted a community-centred Early Childhood Development (ECD) model in Tajikistan, transforming empty school classrooms and community spaces into learning environments. By 2020, 293 ECD centres were established across Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), increasing access to early learning for children aged three to six from 9% to 65%. In 2018, AKF was requested by the Ministry of Education and Science to support expansion to new regions, establishing five model ECD centres. The model includes teacher training, health interventions, and parental engagement, aiming to improve developmental outcomes for children. |
