Earthquake Ready Burnside Bridge Project

The project involves rebuilding the Burnside Bridge in downtown Portland to make it earthquake-proof. The new design features an "inverted-Y" cable-stay bridge with a single tower supported by two angular legs, two lanes in both directions, an eastbound bus-only lane, and wide bike and pedestrian paths. The bridge will be closed for around five years during construction. The project aims to provide a lifeline in the event of a major earthquake on the Cascadia subduction zone.
