Description | The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is a $10 billion cross-border oil pipeline spanning 1,443 kilometers from Uganda's Albertine Graben to Tanzania's Tanga Port. It is designed to transport 246,000 barrels of crude oil daily and aims to be completed by 2026. The project is 48.5% complete as of July 2025, with $3.6 billion already invested. It faces geopolitical risks including Uganda's 2026 presidential election and environmental lawsuits in Tanzania's Murchison Falls National Park. The pipeline is expected to generate $19 billion annually in exports for Uganda by 2028/29 and significant transit fees for Tanzania. |
