Description | The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is the world's longest heated crude oil pipeline, jointly constructed by Uganda and Tanzania. It spans 1,443 kilometers, transporting oil from Uganda's Lake Albert oilfields in Hoima to the Tanga Port in Tanzania. The pipeline will carry up to 246,000 barrels of oil per day, making Uganda a net oil exporter for the first time. The project is expected to be completed in 2027 and is valued at $5 billion. It is backed by a consortium including TotalEnergies, Uganda National Oil Company, Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC). Uganda also plans to build a refinery in Hoima to process oil for local consumption. |
