Description

Description

The Trump administration has paused construction of five major offshore wind projects along the East Coast of the United States. These projects, capable of powering nearly 2.7 million homes, include Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind near Virginia Beach; Empire Wind and Sunrise Wind off New York state; and Revolution Wind and Vineyard Wind off New England. The pause is due to national security concerns related to military radar interference, as cited by the Department of Defense. The projects were at various stages of construction, with Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind two-thirds complete and Vineyard Wind already sending electricity to the grid.
