The project entails the design, construction, operation, maintenance, conservation and exploitation of a road infrastructure to interconnect the Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza and the Autopista Peñón - Texcoco on the Periférico Oriente, within the territorial limits of the State of Mexico and Mexico City (East Connection). After an international public tender, the concession contract was awarded to Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, SA de CV. The 30 years contract was signed in April 2021. Total project cost is estimated to be 3.3bn-peso (US$166mn). Construction started in April 2021. The four-lane highway will have two stretches. The 3.3km stretch A includes a 1.1km viaduct, while the 3.5km stretch B is mostly elevated.
