East River Park Flood Protection and Recreation Project

East River Park in New York is a new space that combines nature, architecture, and flood control as part of the East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) project. It integrates levees, walls, sliding gates, and raised park areas into one system to protect Manhattan from floods while providing recreational spaces. The project includes raising the ground by 2.5-2.7 meters, planting 600 trees and over 21,000 shrubs, and creating playgrounds, lawns, water zones, and walking paths. It also features the Solar One Environmental Education Center, the first building in New York with a photovoltaic system and energy storage, designed to be resilient and educational.
