The development objective of the Eastern Africa Regional Statistics Program-for-Results (PforR) Project for Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, East African Community (EAC), and Africa Union is to strengthen the regional harmonization, dissemination and use of core economic and social statistics for Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania. The program reflects priorities emphasized in the World Bank’s World Development Report on Data for better lives as well as respective World Bank strategies. The operation comprises a Program using the PforR financing instrument and a Project using the investment project financing (IPF) instrument. The Operation will therefore combine the benefits of the PforR instrument of effective delivery through Government systems with two more closely monitored IPF components for African Union Institute of Statistics (STATAFRIC) and the EAC Secretariat’s Statistics Department to build technical assistance for the implementation of the PforR Program. The PforR instrument has distinct advantages for effective and sustainable implementation of nationalprograms, which are essential to reach the regional objective.
