Description | On Oct. 3, 1997, an 85%-15% partnership of AES Corp and Suntree Power Ltd. Of Israel finalized an agreement with the Kazakstan government for the concession to operate two hydro plants and acquire four fossil cogeneration plants in the eastern region of the country. The generation units have 1,384 MW of electric capacity and about 1,000 MW of thermal capacity. The preliminary agreement was signed in July 1997. The partners paid $20.7 million for concessions on the 332 MW Ust-Kamenogorsk and 702 MW Shulbinsk hydro units. At the same time, the partners paid $2.5 million for the assets of the combined heat and power fossil plants including the 240MW Usk-Kamenogorsk, 50MW Leninogorsk, 50MW Sogrinsk, and 10 MWSemipalatinsk units. The 20-year concession may be extended for five year. None None |
