EASTERN PROVINCE JURISDICTIONAL SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE PROGRAM - EMISSIONS REDUCTION PROJECT

active

The project aims to financially incentivize and scale up sustainable land use practices in Zambia’s EP by enabling the GRZ to generate and sell carbon credits based on emission reductions achieved. The project—an emission crediting transaction—will specifically: (1) establish and administer an emission reduction payment agreement (ERPA) for the purchase of eligible land-based GHG emission reductions (ERs) achieved in the Eastern Province of Zambia between 2023 and 2029; and (2) oversee the distribution of carbon revenues according to a benefit sharing plan (BSP). Some of the ERs will be sold to the World Bank’s BioCarbon Fund (BioCF), while excess carbon credits could be sold on the international carbon markets for additional revenues to the government and communities.
