ECO Ishasha Mini Hydropower Plant

ECO Power, from Sri Lanka, was planning the development of the 6.5MW Mini Hydropower Plant, Ishasha River in Kyeijura Kanyantorogo. The project company was Eco Power Uganda Ltd. The power was to be exported to Kanungu, Rukungiri, Kabale and the surrounding rural areas including the eastern DRC. The company held a memorandum of understanding with the government to operate the station for 30 years, selling the output to the national grid. The project became operational in November 2011. Construction began in June 2008. Financial closure date is unavailable, but construction started in June 2008 - reported here as Financial Closure date. Total cost was estimated at $7 million.
