Description

Description

Africa has a rich wealth of biodiversity and natural resources, but these are threatened by human activities such as deforestation and forest degradation. This degradation is mainly driven by land use changes, water pollution and unsustainable practices in agriculture, forestry, fishing and tourism. Without proper management of these resources, successful measures against climate change, poverty and hunger are at risk, which is particularly problematic in Africa as the population and food demand will double by 2050. A sustainable transformation of the economic system is therefore crucial and the financial sector plays an important role in this by providing capital for ecological transitions in key sectors. The eco.business Fund is an example of an FC measure that encourages private actors to invest more in projects to promote a sustainable economic system in Africa. The fund started in Latin America and was expanded to sub-Saharan Africa in 2019 to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity, the sustainable use of natural resources and the fight against climate change.
