Description

Description

The Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region is rich in biodiversity and natural resources, but these are threatened by human activities. The main causes of degradation are land use changes, deforestation, water pollution and unsustainable practices in agriculture, forestry, fishing and tourism. To counteract this, a shift towards a green economy is necessary. The financial sector plays a crucial role in this by providing sufficient capital for ecological transformation in key sectors. The overarching development policy goal is the preservation of natural resources and the protection of biodiversity through the efficient provision of capital for biodiversity-friendly forms of production in agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as in nature-based tourism. The FC module goal is the successful introduction of a new financial product to promote resource-efficient and biodiversity-friendly practices in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Eco-Business Fund, founded by KfW, Conservation International (CI) and Finance in Motion (FiM), is leading the project and is aimed at local partner financial institutions, companies in the aforementioned sectors and private investors.
