Description
Description | Despite Rwanda's dynamic economic development, both youth unemployment (22.4%) and underemployment (55.7%) remain very present, which has been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. These labor market problems are partly due to a lack of vocational training and a weak demand for vocational training and further education. This is where the project comes in, strengthening the quality and availability of vocational training on the one hand and increasing its attractiveness while facilitating access on the other. Phases IV and V are being carried out in parallel, with the total support volume amounting to EUR 29 million. In addition, the measures are to be continued with a potential sum of EUR 30 million. The program builds on infrastructure investments already made at a total of 19 vocational schools. Similar to the previous phases, the aim of the project is to increase the number of graduates with employment-relevant skills, with a particular focus on women. The project includes the following components: 1) Investments in infrastructure and equipment at Rwandan vocational and polytechnic schools (school buildings, boarding rooms and modern equipment) 2) TVET scholarship program (approx. 4000 learners from vulnerable sections of the population with good academic performance) 3) Consulting services to support the project sponsor, support of school management and teaching staff in the efficient and sustainable operation of the schools) The project sponsor is the non-commercial, public institution Rwanda Technical and Vocational Education and Training Board (RTB). The measures described in Rwanda are carried out nationwide, without a regional focus. |
