The project vision is a GBP 1 billion (USD 1.23 billion) transformation to create Edinburgh’s Health Innovation District, a new and vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood, ultimately supporting a community of more than 20,000 people. It will include commercial labs and offices as well as residential housing, cafes, bars, restaurants, hotel, retail and leisure.Edinburgh BioQuarter is currently a partnership between the City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian, Scottish Enterprise and University of Edinburgh; together the Edinburgh BioQuarter Partners. Over the past 2 decades, the 167-acre site, located 3 miles south of Edinburgh City Centre, has been developed extensively with over GBP 500 million of capital for buildings, infrastructure and specialist equipment. Today it is home to the globally renowned Edinburgh Medical School, many of the University of Edinburgh’s world-leading research institutes, 900-bed Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and 13 life science business. It is a melting pot of specialist activities with an onsite community of 8 000 who work and study within its boundary.The investment and development partner will accelerate delivery of the vision.
