The Master’s Program “Education, Migration, and Diversity” will be a research-based and practice-oriented study program combining teaching in migration studies, cultural and religious studies, educational sciences, and applied linguistics.It aims at educating internationally trained professionals who will work in the fields of education, migration, and diversity, who will develop diversity-oriented, critical approaches in their lines of work, and who will have skills required at upper and middle management levels in schools, in adult education institutions, companies, public organizations, or NGOs. By combining the expertise of universities in culturally and linguistically yet “decentered” regions of Europe and the world, the program will educate excellent professionals with high intercultural and multilingual competence. The master’s program comprises two years; studies will begin in Germany, where students will gain fundamental knowledge on migration, integration and multilingualism and deepen their understanding of doing research; they will continue in Sweden, focusing on education and diversity. In the third term, students will study either in Italy, Turkey, Benin, Germany, or Sweden, deepening their intercultural competencies and gaining professional expertise in internships; the third term will include a joint winter school in Italy to ensure community building. In the fourth term, students will write a thesis. Digital technologies will be consistently used throughout the program. Beneficiaries of the project will be the students of the program and their future employers, students attending the local masters, as they will be positively impacted through interacting with the highly diverse student body of the EMJM program. Third, the program will facilitate interaction between the universities’ academic and non-academic personnel and offer possibilities for worldwide structured and sustainable academic cooperation in teaching and research.
