Description | The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is a 19-kilometre light-rail transit line in Toronto, Canada, that has experienced significant delays and cost overruns. Initially proposed in 2007 with construction starting in 2011 and planned completion in 2020, the project has faced numerous challenges including political interference, design delays, complex utility relocations, legal battles, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The project is structured as a public-private partnership (P3) with the Crosslinx Transit Solutions consortium responsible for design, construction, and maintenance. As of 2025, the line is mostly complete and undergoing system testing, but no official opening date has been announced. The total cost including 30 years of maintenance is estimated at $13.08 billion CAD, significantly higher than the original estimate. |
