Description | The project will provide a rapid transit connection from the western terminus of the Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (ECLRT) to the Mississauga’s MiWay Bus Rapid Transit service at Renforth Gateway in Mississauga. The project will create a single rapid transit connection from Kennedy Station in Scarborough through to downtown Mississauga and will address the following issues: i) increased coverage, access and network resilience; and ii) community growth and development. The project scope includes new construction of a 9 kilometre, double-track, transit alignment with 6 kilometres of tunneled sections and the rest of the alignment above-grade; The construction components will be delivered via two separate contracts: 1) Advance Tunneling Works contracts and 2) Stations, Rail and Systems (SRS) contract. The proposed scope of the SRS works includes, but is not limited to, installation and construction of the following features to fit-out the tunneled and above-grade sections: 7 stations/terminals, 1 bridge/elevated guideway, 6 emergency exit buildings, 10 cross passages, 6 traction power substations, 3 tunnel portals, installation of intelligent traffic system (ITS) for vehicle monitoring and controls as well as terminal monitoring; and fleet procurement. The project will result in improved capacity of public transit infrastructure, improved quality and/or safety of existing or future transit systems and access to the public transit system in Toronto, Ontario. The project will also result in Increased access to clean energy transportation. |
