Egrisi was established as a joint-stock company in 1993. It provides satellite and fiber optic based international and long-distance telecom services in Georgia. Egrisi, Goodwillcom (a subsidiary of America's Goodwillcom), Global One, Macrocom and Saktelkomplus were the main alternatives to Telecom Georgia in the market for international fixed-line communications as of 2002. The largest was Egrisi: it controled roughly 25% of the market. Moreover, it was the only company, aside from Telecom Georgia, with its own transmission lines. All of the other companies routed their traffic through the state monopoly.
