Egypt's New Administrative Capital (NAC)

Under Construction

A massive urban development project in the Egyptian desert, approximately 30 miles east of Cairo, spanning about 270 square miles. It aims to relieve congestion in Cairo and reconfigure the relationship between state, territory, and population. The project functions as a spatial declaration of political legitimacy, a financial instrument, and a technological platform for surveillance and control. It is a speculative infrastructure project involving public resources, private investment, and significant Chinese funding, including a $20 billion commitment by China Fortune Land Development (CFLD). The project includes relocation of government ministries and institutions, with over 50,000 public employees projected to work in the Government District. The military plays a central role in development and construction.
