Description

Description

The responsibility for the administration of the accessible transit service contract (GoBus) was recently transferred from the City of St. John’s Finance Department to Metrobus. In reviewing the service design, a number of changes have been identified to improve the stability and efficiency of the service. The provision of the service is contracted to a third party, MVT Canadian Bus Inc. Currently, the ownership of the client database, service specific computer hardware and related technology, as well as other assets, are retained by Metrobus except for the buses, which are owned by MVT. Upon renewal of the contract with MVT (January 1, 2017), Metrobus will purchase and retain ownership of the buses in the fleet. This will ensure stability and continuity of the service should circumstances arise that result in the termination of the contract with MVT. The funding will be to purchase 18 new buses. The current fleet of buses owned by MVT are nearing the end of their useful service life and would need to be replaced in the near future by MVT if the current arrangement continues.
