The terminal will have an area of 3,100 square meters and a handling capacity of 50,000 passengers per year. The project involved a total cost of US$ 8.2 million. $25 million construction works (8,366-foot runway) were completed in Nov. 2000 and the sponsor will operate the new facility for a period of 25 years. In 2007, Calafate Airport committed US $15.1 million (47 million Argentine pesos) to expanding its terminal at El Calafate airport. 30% of the additional investment was to be financed by the provincial government.
