Description
Description | El Paso City Council unanimously approved a measure on May 26, 2026, directing the City to stop actively recruiting or incentivizing future hyperscale data center projects. The policy states that future hyperscale data centers should not be actively recruited, pursued, or incentivized, and such projects would not be considered for tax abatements, rebates, permit fee waivers, public financing assistance, economic development grants, or similar incentives unless the policy direction is changed by City Council. This measure does not ban data centers from locating in El Paso and does not affect Meta's planned data center in Northeast El Paso. The City manager is directed to continue developing a future-focused Data Center Policy Framework, with a draft version released for public review and feedback. |
