Description

Description

Northam Platinum Holdings acquired the Eland mine from Glencore in 2017. The mine, previously on care and maintenance, has significant existing infrastructure including PGM and chrome concentrators, tailings storage facilities, and surface infrastructure. A feasibility study completed in 2019 led to the restart of underground mining with a hybrid method. The project includes connecting underground workings with the neighbouring Maroelabult mine acquired in 2022, improving underground services and building mineable reserves. Steady-state production of 150,000 oz/year of 4E concentrate is scheduled for 2029. Capital expenditure for 2026 is forecast at R1.4 billion, with most capex planned for the next 18 months. The project also includes a planned integrated renewable energy project with 20 MW solar capacity and 40 MWh battery storage starting construction in the second half of 2026.
