Description | The Electra Ontario cobalt sulfate refinery is designed to become the only battery-grade cobalt sulfate refinery in North America, producing battery-grade cobalt sulfate for electric vehicle batteries and other high-performance applications. The facility is located in the Industrial Business Park at Temiskaming Shores, Ontario, approximately 420 km north of Toronto. It is projected to produce 6,500 metric tonnes of battery-grade cobalt sulfate per year at full capacity, with initial production of 5,120 metric tonnes expected upon commissioning in 2027. The project cost is approximately C$250 million, with mechanical completion targeted for Q2 2027. The refinery is part of a vertically integrated North American battery supply chain strategy, with potential upstream feedstock connections to Electra's Idaho Cobalt Belt assets. |
