Electric Vehicle Innovation Ontario (EVIO) Project

The EVIO project is an industry-academic partnership led by the University of Toronto's department of computer science, collaborating with seven other southern Ontario universities. It aims to accelerate the development and commercialization of next-generation electric vehicle and mobility technologies by placing graduate students at EV and mobility companies to work on critical challenges such as battery chemistry, charging reliability, power electronics, mobility software, cold-weather performance, and advanced manufacturing. The project is supported by federal funding and matched by industry and academic partners, with a total program value of $7.9 million, expected to generate over $30 million in economic activity and expand R&D capacity in Canada.
