The Project aims to improve the operational efficiency and reliability of the electricity sector in a multi-dimensional manner – proven loss reduction methods through advanced metering infrastructure; modernization of the distribution network and its operations; and introduction of digital tools for operations and commercial activities. The financial performance is expected to improve with adherence to a tariff trajectory towards cost recovery and improved efficiency in service delivery and the institutional performance will be improved through capacity-building at the national and corporate level. The social protection systems will be strengthened through technical assistance and capacity building to better protect the vulnerable population who might be negatively impacted by tariff increases. The project will also contribute to the energy sector transparency and financial discipline through technical assistance and capacity building on improved sector and corporate governance practices.
