Description

Description

The main goal of this project is to contribute to Europe’s decarbonization ambitions through electrification of the Euromax terminal and its terminal operations, located on the Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam. The Port of Rotterdam is Europe’s largest seaport and a key multimodal hub for TEN-T Core Network, playing a vital role for European transport connectivity, facilitating trade and transport across Western Europe, linking the major ports and economic centers of the North Sea to the Mediterranean. The North Sea Rhine Mediterranean, is one the busiest freight routes in Europe, and it further connects Rotterdam to key industrial regions across Germany, Switzerland and Italy. The Port of Rotterdam functions as a central node in these corridors, making it a crucial hub for advancing the EU’s decarbonization goals by integrating sustainable transport solutions and supporting the transition to zero-emission port operations. The project aims to install in total 9 charging points with a capacity of 220kW supplying port vehicles and equipment used for the performance of port services and operations and procure transshipment port equipment. In total 8 charging points (with a capacity of 220kW) will be used to charge 42 electric Automated Guided Vehicles (eAGVs), and 1 charging point (with a capacity of 200kW) to charge 2 electric Terminal Tractors (eTTs). The terminal where this project is located is part of the Group “Hutchison Ports” which has recently obtained the seal of approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for the strategy developed at group level to reduce GHG emissions and 2050 net-zero target. To achieve the GHG emissions reduction targets as mentioned above, Hutchison Ports has developed a net-zero strategic roadmap which takes into account the past emissions pattern, future plan on electrification of fleet, adoption of renewable energy and alternative fuel. This journey started in 2020, with several projects and studies aiming to a successful energy transition. By deploying the above-mentioned charging points, supplying zero emissions ports equipment, the project will support the decarbonisation of maritime transport, and will contribute to reaching the EU Green Deal’s targets. This will accelerate the energy transition of ports in Europe.
