Electronic Fare Management System (EFMS)

• This project consists of the purchase and installation of a new electronic fare management system for Thunder Bay’s public transit fleet. • Equipment for the new electronic fare management system will include: o 48 fareboxes for conventional vehicles; o 25 hand-held readers (including spares) for 25 specialized vehicles; o one (1) through-the-wall vault; o approximately 32 retail point-of-sale terminals; o mobile phone ticketing functionality; and o customer service web portal • The introduction of this system will improve data collection and customer convenience, and will reduce the potential for driver/passenger conflict due to manual farebox interaction. • The project will result in improved quality and/or safety of existing or future transit systems and improved access to a public transit system in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
