Elevated Ring Road Project Phase I: Ashram-Mukarba Chowk Stretch

The Delhi government has identified a nearly 22km priority stretch between Ashram and Mukarba Chowk as the most viable starting point for Phase I of the 57.5km elevated Ring Road project. This elevated corridor, referred to as the 'Urban Ring Expressway', will run above Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Inner Ring Road) to reduce congestion and travel time. The project is divided into phases covering critical junctions and segments, with the Ashram-Mukarba Chowk stretch further divided into three segments. Challenges include integration with existing infrastructure, heritage conservation near protected monuments, and managing traffic diversions in densely populated neighborhoods. The estimated project cost ranges between Rs 5,500 crore and Rs 8,000 crore.
