Elizabeth Ave Shared Use Path

The construction of Elizabeth Avenue Shared-Use Path consists of upgrading the existing sidewalk on the North side of the street from Allandale Road to Paton Street to create a continuous 1.3 km active transportation route comfortable for use by people of all ages and abilities. The project supports transportation equity by filling gaps in current public transit coverage and connecting neighbourhoods and essential destinations with a shared-use path that will attract people of all ages and abilities to walk, stroll, roll or cycle. The route alignment is part of the Bike St. John’s Master Plan and recognizes previous MUN Area Traffic Studies and Campus Master Plans. The existing sidewalk will be replaced with an asphalt surface widened to 3.0 metres. The entire section will be adjacent to the street corridor. The scope of the construction work includes removing existing sidewalk and curb/gutter, minor excavation and grubbing, construction of some small retaining structures, installation of curb and gutter and trail surface, asphalt reinstatement and finished landscaping. Street crossings and intersections will be upgraded to create a continuous and comfortable route.
