Emergency aid after Cyclone Pam

In March 2015, Cyclone Pam destroyed large parts of the island state of Vanuatu and was one of the strongest cyclones ever recorded in the region. The neighboring countries of Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands were also affected by the disaster. The aim of the Emergency Aid after Cyclone Pam project is to implement support and emergency aid measures in the areas affected by Cyclone Pam in a timely and needs-based manner, thus contributing to alleviating the effects of the cyclone. This is intended to contribute to the socio-economic reconstruction of the affected areas, to improving living conditions and to the resilience of the population to future disasters. The project is to be implemented as a direct service via the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), the largest technical service organization of the 22 Pacific island states. Among other things, transport services, the reconstruction of agriculture and fisheries, and measures in the health sector are to be financed. The project is designed as an open program in which the project sponsor can make flexible changes during project implementation in coordination with KfW. The target group of the FC measure are the governments and local populations of the island states affected by the cyclone: Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands. An FC grant of EUR 6 million is planned for financing.
