Description | Emirates Biotech is participating in the CIRCLE consortium project to produce polylactic acid (PLA) from food waste. The project aims to demonstrate an industrial biorefinery converting organic food waste into high-value bio-based chemicals including PLA. Emirates Biotech will manage the polymerisation of lactic acid derived from food waste and produce high-purity PLA for evaluation and application development. The project targets production of different PLA grades for markets such as automotive, cosmetics, and food packaging, with a focus on reducing carbon footprint. The company plans to commission an 80 ktpa PLA plant in 2028. |
