Description

The Brazilian company EMPA Servicos de Engenharia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Portuguese group Teixeira Duarte, was granted authorizations to build two small hydro power plants located in the states of Mato Grosso do Sul (30.2 MW in total capacity). The 30-year contracts were signed with the regulatory agency ANEEL in Marco 1999. Two special purpose companies were created to manage the projects: Indaia Grande Energia S.A. (PCH Indaia Grande) and Indaiazinho Energia S.A. (PCH Indaiazinho). Investment commitment on the power plants was not available. Construction works were underway as of August 2011. PCH Indaia Grande commenced operations in March 2012, and PCH Indaiazinho commenced operations in May 2012. In June 2012, the state-owned BNDES granted a US$ 37.1 million (BRL 72.5 million) loan to the PCH Indaia Grande project and a US$ 26.1 million (BRL 51 million) loan to the PCH Indaiazinho project.
