Description | Empire Wind 1 is an offshore wind farm project located 19 miles off Long Branch, New Jersey. Owned by Norwegian renewable energy company Equinor, the project received its Construction and Operations Plan approval in February 2024 and began onshore construction at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal in Spring 2024. Marine activities resumed in Spring 2025, including rock laying on the seabed to create a stable base for turbine foundations. The project aims to provide electric power to 500,000 homes on Long Island, New York, and is contracted with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. It is planned to be New Jersey's largest offshore wind farm, covering 80,000 acres of ocean. |
