Description | The Empire Wind I project is an offshore wind energy project located off the coasts of Long Branch, New Jersey, and Long Beach on Long Island, New York. The project had begun construction but faced a stop-work order issued by the Interior Secretary due to concerns about rushed approvals and flawed science. The project was later allowed to move forward after political lobbying. The project is being developed by Equinor, a Norwegian energy company, and has undergone years of permitting and studies, securing all necessary federal, state, and local approvals to begin construction in 2024. |
