Description | The Empire Wind project involves the installation of 54 wind turbines, towers, and more than 150 blades in waters 14 miles off Jones Beach, Long Island. The project is more than 65% complete, with foundations and monopiles already installed, cabling work around 95% complete, and an offshore substation installed. The project will deliver 810 megawatts of power to the New York City grid in Brooklyn. A wind-turbine installation vessel, the Maersk-owned Viridis, is en route from Singapore to assist with turbine installation, expected to arrive for sea trials later in 2026. Tugboats and barges supporting the project are under construction in Louisiana and Mississippi. |
