Description
Description | The community of hard of hearing people is a diverse and growing group, primarily relying on access to sound with hearing assistive technologies such as hearing aids and cochlear implants, also assistive listening devices (hearing loops) subtitling and real time captioning for effective communication. Despite an increasing number of people being affected by hearing loss, there is still an exceptionally low awareness in understanding how to ensure that hard of hearing people are able to enjoy same rights as their peers.Hard of hearing citizens experience limited opportunities to equitable participation in education, job markets and recreation activities due to accessibility challenges such as lack of induction loops, assistive listening devices and captioning/ subtitling. EHOHC is a project proposal focused on strengthening the capacity of EFHOH national member organisations to influence inclusive recovery, public policies and programmes. The EHOHC realise mobilisation and activation of hard of hearing associations and citizens with hearing loss in EU. Our long term goal is to protect, promote and raise awareness on rights of persons with disabilities, specifically hard of hearing and deafened people through long term mentoring program, training and support program to strengthen the capacity of national member organisations.Through our communication and engagement activities we will raise awareness of the European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030. EFHOH is applying for this grant to support the implementation of the European Accessibility Act, European Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2021-2030 (ESRPD) with priority action on accessibility, EU Web Accessibility Directive, Principle 17 of the European Social Pillar on Inclusion of persons with disabilities and article 9 of the UNCRPD on accessibility. |
